The current system that Michael has implemented for what would be part of the Environmental Protection Agency in the U.S. is used to keep track of substances that might endanger ground water. It maintains data on about 30,000 different installations, most of whom are oil tanks.

The database has five main tables which include ones for administrative address, installation address, site information such as the kind of installation, substance involved and security), technical check data and administrative action.

Transactions consist of lookup of sites that haven't been checked and writing letters, locating sites that haven't been repaired and writing letters, adding technical checks and inserting or updating installations.

The code is currently 996 lines of 4GL, 66 lines for the mailmerge texts and 20 lines written in awk.
