(?) Linux Gazette Answer Guy Privacy Statement

From Pieter den Engelse on Tue, 28 Mar 2000

Hi answer guy,

Is it possible to get the email adres from rian, because i have the same error. Maybe he/she knows already the answer.

Greetings Pieter

(!) Sorry. I can't give out people's e-mail addresses. First I make an effort to blot them from the portions of messages that I quote for my column. Second I don't know it. I might have it in my archives somewhere --- but really! Wouldn't it be better to share the problem (and any answers) with the rest of us?

(!) That'd be no

(?) Sorry. I can't give out people's e-mail addresses. First I make an effort to blot them from the portions of messages that I quote for my column.

(!) I also have a script which now does further stripping when I transform the header.
Normal people deserve normal privacy, and are granted it in this column. Even extraordinary people deserve privacy, when the opportunity allows. So if it's not important to the question, you won't be told if the querent is a plain Joe, or a confused CIO.
Now, when someone is talking about their own product and how it compares or fits in with a previous question, it's an important part of the answer that they are authoritative on the subject.

(?) because i have the same error. Maybe he/she knows already the answer.

Greetings Pieter

--- but really! Wouldn't it be better to share the problem (and any answers) with the rest of us?

(!) The answers from others that have chosen to do so, I endeavor to mark with the Answer Bubble instead of the Question Bubble in the table of contents for a given month. Betcha wondered what that was about. A big round of applause for 'em!
Also, don't be afraid to use the Linux Gazette Search Engine - sometimes, the Two Cent Tips column has also got some very useful answers - and to look for new sources of documentation to things. Sometimes someone with the answer out there in the great webbed world, either doesn't have time to let us know or perhaps doesn't live in the circles of friends that know about The Answer Guy, but did bother to throw it onto his website... the one the search bots only found two days after the Answer Guy hit "send" on his reply.
